“Rebels on the River: The American Revolution and New Brunswick” — Presentation by Major (Ret’d) Gary Campbell, PhD
The presentation will be about the American Revolution and Sunbury County, Nova Scotia (present day New Brunswick). This is the only area that rebelled against British rule and where the rebellion was successfully suppressed. It will discuss the two rebel invasions that occurred and will examine the interactions between the Indigenous people, the New England Planters, the New Englanders of the District of Maine and the British forces. This is an interesting period of history and one that is not generally known.
Gary Campbell is a retired CAF officer who is interested in the military history of New Brunswick. He became interested in the story of the American Revolution in New Brunswick when he was researching his first book “The Road to Canada”, a military history of the St. John River.
