Town of York Historical Society: Toronto’s Mayors from Muddy York to Mega City Presentation

April 13, 2023 @ 7:00 pm

$11.98

Join special guest speaker, Frank Nicholson, on Thursday April 13 at Toronto’s First Post Office, as he unfolds the history of Toronto through the careers of some of the sixty-five chief magistrates the city has had since being incorporated in 1834; a timely subject given Toronto’s upcoming mayoral election!

Key figures will include our first mayor, William Lyon Mackenzie, leader of the Rebellion of 1837; W.H. Boulton, Toronto’s last Family Compact mayor; W.H. Howland, promoter of “Toronto the Good”; Tommy Church, “Father of the TTC”; Leslie Saunders, our last Orange Order Mayor; Nathan Phillips, our first Jewish mayor and the man behind our current iconic City Hall; David Crombie, our “Tiny Perfect Mayor”; and Mel Lastman, who oversaw the merger of the city, the suburbs and Metro into Megacity, our current city, twenty-five years ago.

This event will take place in-person at Toronto’s First Post Office at 260 Adelaide Street East, with doors opening at 6:30pm and the presentation beginning promptly at 7pm. Pre-registration and ticket purchase is required to attend. Don’t delay as spots are strictly limited!
