Oshawa Historical Society and Oshawa Public Libraries’ March Local History Speaker : Dan Buchanan
March 21, 2023 @ 6:00 pm
The most sensational trial of the mid-1850s resulted in the only hanging in Northumberland County. Dr. King poisoned his wife with arsenic in Brighton and, after the trial and hanging, was buried in the front yard of the King family farm house at Codrington – the same house where the author grew up! Here is the full story of this notorious crime, based on documents, including the confession of the murderer.
Dan Buchanan is “The History Guy of Brighton, Ontario.” He is engaged in many projects related to local and Ontario history, working from his home in Brighton. As a guest speaker, Dan provides fascinating stories of Ontario history presented with humour and passion. His first book, published in 2015, was Murder In The Family: The Dr. King Story, which tells the fascinating true story of Brighton’s infamous murder case in 1859.
March’s Local History Speaker Series is taking place Tuesday, March 21 at 6PM. The Speaker Series will be held at the McLaughlin Branch of the Oshawa Public Libraries, in the lower level auditorium, located at 65 Bagot Street, Oshawa.
The Local History Speaker Series is an event presented in partnership between the Oshawa Historical Society and the Oshawa Public Libraries.
