Nine Ships 1825 Bicentennial Reflections Book Launch
The exciting news is that the Bicentennial Reflections books have arrived and it is almost time for the big reveal! Bicentennial Reflections is a new book produced by Nine Ships 1825 and is inspired by the Peter Robinson Bicentennial Commemoration in 2025.
The public is invited to attend the Launch of this Bicentennial Reflections book on Monday, August 10th at 10:00 am at the Trent Valley Archives, 567 Carnegie Avenue, Peterborough.
“A central part of the book are the voices of the Bicentennial Community Partners, reflecting how their knowledge about the history of their community increased during the bicentennial year. These reflections—personal, thoughtful, and rooted in lived experience—form an essential part of the book.” states Editor Elwood Jones.
In the book, you’ll read about the Peter Robinson political experiment, which recruited 2,024 people in 307 families to prove that it was worthwhile for the British Government of the day to fully finance an 18-month emigration from a volatile area of Ireland to a fertile area of Upper Canada, ultimately known as the Peterborough area. The book also contains 80 photographs of events that took place in Canada and Ireland and some of the remarks made by dignitaries at these events.
“This attractive Bicentennial Reflections book has truly been a team effort and will be a part of the legacy that Nine Ships 1825 is able to leave to the community and to future generations.” states Chair Brendan Moher.
Nine Ships 1825 is grateful to generous sponsors Paschal and Sylvia McCloskey, Gary and Joanne Reamey, the Federal Government of Canada and the other wonderful financial supporters who made this book possible.
After the launch, the Bicentennial Reflections book will be available online at https://trentvalleyarchives.com/ or at the Trent Valley Archives bookstore at 567 Carnegie Avenue, Peterborough.
