Historical Society of Ottawa Speaker Series : My Story as Canada’s “Betsy Ross”

September 21 @ 1:30 pm

Guest Speaker: Joan O’Malley

When Prime Minister Lester Pearson called up Joan’s father at the last-minute, urgently needing samples (by the next morning!) of the final three choices for the new Canadian flag, it was 20-year old Joan who came to her father’s rescue, sewing Canada’s first maple leaf flag.

Admission is free. All are welcome to attend.

Note that this presentation will coincide with the annual Canada Army Run, which will entail some street closures east of the Library. It is recommended that attendees consider arriving by public transit or, if driving, approach and locate parking west of the Library.
