Speaker: Sandra Lucs

In 1834, Dr. Henry Orton immigrated to Guelph, seeking to escape the English class system and attracted by the prospect of land ownership. Sandra Lucs has focused her M.A. studies on an investigation into the life of Dr. Orton. The contents of his memoirs and 85 letters written between 1834 and 1854 and held at the University of Guelph Archives offer a rich trove of information about the strategies he pursued to make a living in his new home country.
