Accredited speaker with Home Children Canada, Sheila Dodd will be giving a brief history about the BHC child migration scheme and some of the sending agencies and receiving homes in the area. She will be focusing on children placed in the Clarington area and those that ended up living and dying here. By using new case studies, Sheila hopes to bring some of these indentured servants and labourers stories to life and show the challenges that most British Home Children faced once in Canada. Over 100,000 children were sent from Britain to Canada from 1869-1948 and is a forgotten part of Canadian history that Sheila and others helped to keep alive.
