Halton Black History Awareness Society: 2024 Halton Freedom Celebration Festival
August 3 @ 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm
The HBHAS is excited with this year’s Celebration Festival August 3, 2024 at Spencer Smith Park, Burlington, as the lineup is stupendous. We’re also pround of one of our musical groups, Blackburn, in their record breaking 2024, 9 Maple Blues Award nominations. Blackburn has played for this festival every year since our incorporation. Due to their exquisite global promotions, they will not be joining us this year as they’ve been asked to do a European tour. Congratulations Blackburn. We’ll revisit down the road.
The musical program this year includes Maple Blues nominated for best new group, Garnetta Cromwell and DaGroovmasters; Rayzalution – 5 piece all female Reggae phenom; Dejehan Luckystickz Hamilton & Friends; World Class Lou Pomanti & Oakland Stroke; and, the infamous LTD Connection. (Bios attaced). Jazz/soul phenom, Shelley Hamilton will be joining Luckystickz as Masters of Ceremony. This exquisite musical entourage will compliment the wide array of multi-cultural crafts, fashion, art and storytelling workshops, and youth activities. This is a festival you do not want to miss.
Last years attendance of 5000 will definitely increase, and the Halton Freedom Festival weekend, will include an HBHAS Emancipation Flag Raising at Burlington City Hall on Thursday, August 1st followed by our HBHAS Emancipation Gala Thursday evening at the Burlington Performing Arts Center, and the 7th Emancipation Art Exhibition taking place August 4th at the Helson Gallery in Halton Hills.
The HBHAS is currently accepting vendors to serve multi-cultural cuisine, and we welcome crafters, artisans, storytellers, genealogists, historians, and community service providers to join in the experience and celebrating within the “1st city in the world to acclaim August as Emancipation Month”. We welcome you and yours to this free celebration festival.
