SUMMARY:Toronto Railway Museum - Model Trains: Not Just Toys Anymore
DESCRIPTION:Bill Schneider\, one of the senior product designers at Rapido Trains Inc.\, will discuss how today’s model trains are researched\, developed\, and produced. Topics will include archival research\, model mold production\, decoration and assembly\, as well as the role electronics play in today’s models. \nRapido Trains\, a Canadian company based in Markham\, has been producing model trains in HO and N scales for more than 22 years. The company’s trains have earned a reputation among enthusiasts for their accurate detailing and exceptional quality. Rapido is also known for selecting projects that other manufacturers often overlook. \nAbout our speaker: \nBill has been involved in the hobby industry since 1982\, working in retail\, wholesale\, and manufacturing. He lives in central Connecticut. \nAbout the series: \nThe Toronto Railway Museum hosts guest speakers online via the Zoom Webinar platform the Second Tuesday of each month. These talks are free and open to the public\, with a suggested donation of $10 to support future programming. DESCRIPTION:Guest Speaker\nLynn Gehl Ph.D\, Anishinaabe Algonquin Advocate\, Academic\, Author & Artist \nWendy Jocko Sgt. CD (Ret’d)\,  Former Chief of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation. Canadian Forces Veteran \nDetails \nWendy Jocko’s uncle and four great uncles served in WWI and her father and five uncles served in WWII. Wendy served for 23 years\, including tours of duty in Bosnia and Croatia.\nWendy’s son served in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. \nIn Lynn Gehl’s book “Joseph Gagnon: An Algonquin World War I Veteran”\, she recounts the story of her great-grandfather who\, in exchange for his wartime service and sacrifices\, found himself stripped of his rights as an Indigenous person\, yet denied the rights accorded non-Indigenous veterans. \nThis presentation will take place on Zoom.
