DESCRIPTION:Author Scott Kennedy will take us on a journey through the history of Hogg’s Hollow and York Mills from its beginnings to the present day in this illustrated presentation. Along the way we will discover early pioneers and the farms they established\, how St. John’s Anglican Church welcomed its first worshippers over 200 years ago\, and the rise of the estates on Bayview. The area’s rich history includes connections to Amelia Earhart and the famous thoroughbred racehorse Northern Dancer. Scott Kennedy\, whose first address was RR#1 York Mills\, has been witness to major changes in the neighbourhood over his lifetime. \nCopies of the author’s book Tales From the Hollow will be available for purchase prior to the programme.

SUMMARY:North Toronto Historical Society: Two Chinese Home Cooks: Asian Heritage Month Program
DESCRIPTION:Join Chef Leo Chan as he presents the stories of two Chinese men who worked for Canadian families in Toronto in the first half of the twentieth century. The men were employed as home cooks outside of Chinatown and interacted with households in an environment unfamiliar with Chinese immigrants. Mr. Wong Dong Wong worked for two generations of an Irish Canadian family and is the subject of the book Finding Mr. Wong by Susan Crean.
