From 4 pm to 8 pm each night\, discover the origins of Christmas traditions we celebrate today\, and delight in the sights\, sounds\, and smells of the holiday season. \nDiscover the beauty of the historic village lit by the soft glow of candles\, lamps\, and lanterns. Hear the jingle of sleigh bells as you tour the village by horse-drawn wagon ride\, and see stars shining brightly in the country night sky. Throughout the village\, enjoy the familiar scent of hearth fires\, pine and cedar garlands and freshly-made natural centerpieces. \nExperience a pioneer’s first Christmas in the wilderness at the Fife Cabin and hear the crackle of chestnuts roasting over an open fire. Witness the merriment of friends who have gathered for the holidays and join in on a traditional toast to the holiday season at the Fitzpatrick House. Learn about traditional holiday treats while you sample some Turkish Delight in the Milburn House\, and\ndiscover the history of the Christmas tree and stockings. \nView a selection of early Christmas gift ideas at the General Store\, and learn the history of the toy maker at the Carpenter Shop. Listen to Christmas hymns played on the pump organ at the Glen Alda Church and join in on a carol sing. Discover the history behind the traditional Christmas tale T’was the Night Before Christmas in the Print Shop. Do you know the story of the Flying Canoe? Hear the tale\, and enjoy shanties and Christmas songs performed by Glen Caradus and Fiddling Jay. Sample some sugar plums as you listen to the story of how the Nutcracker defeated the Mouse King at the Cider Mill. Have some fun participating in the reindeer games like tandem ski\, snowshoe\, and sled races. Be sure to visit with Father and Mother Christmas themselves. Don’t forget to bring your letter for Father Christmas to leave in his mailbox. On Saturday\, see performances by the Peterborough Scottish Country Dancers\, and on Sunday\, enjoy performances by the Hollow Woods Recorder Consort. \nTempt your taste buds with delicious treats and hot drinks to warm your insides at the Cheese Factory. If you need sustenance\, stop by the Peterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building where we will be serving ham and savory on a bun. \nThere are a variety of items to be won in the Christmas raffle\, and if you are looking for some unique tree ornaments and gifts\, be sure to peruse the selection available in the Museum Shop. \nOn Sunday at 7:00 pm\, witness a live nativity complete with animals and a choir presented by the Keene United Church. Discover the history of coffins and body snatching at the Carpenter Shop. Meet Stingy Jack at the Blacksmith Shop and listen to his sorry tale. Witness a traditional 1890s Halloween party at the Milburn House and take part in some party games. Take a stroll through the graveyard at the\nFitzpatrick House. Be sure to watch out for the man-eating plant inside! Hear the story of werewolves and give your best howl at the moon. \nVisit the witch’s lair and see her swampy brew bubbling in her cauldron over the fire. Don’t get lost in the maze if you are brave enough to enter. Listen to sea shanties and jokes in the Pirate Hall\, and see if you can find all the items on their treasure map. You just might receive a piece of treasure for yourself if you do! \nParticipate in a class on poisons and potions in the School House. Do you dare feel what is lurking in the mystery crocks at the Tinsmith Shop\, or try a treat from the Botched Bakery? If you ask her nicely\, Madam Fortune just might reveal what is to come. \nListen to the Michi Saagiig people’s tale of the Wendigo. Learn about paranormal investigations undertaken at Lang Pioneer Village Museum by ghost hunters the Paranormal Seekers\, and see some of the specialized equipment they use to make their discoveries. Warm up by the fire and witness the magic of the Samhain Celtic fire festival. \nIf your nerves are rattled and making you hungry\, stop by the Cider Barn for some delicious hot chocolate and monster cookies\, or visit the Peterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building (PCAHB) for a hot dog or grilled cheese sandwich (additional fee applies). You can also purchase candy and sweet treats in the General Store as you learn about the origins of trick-or-treating.\nDon’t forget to come disguised to blend in with the spirits and ghosts lurking in the Village\, or have your face painted in the PCAHB Great Hall by Faces by 2. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a fun-filled celebration of apples and the harvest season with Applefest at Lang Pioneer Village Museum! The Museum’s sweetest and most popular event returns to the historic village on Sunday\, October 6 from 10 am to 4 pm. Tour the village by horse-drawn wagon and enjoy the sights\, tastes and aromas of autumn and apples. Throughout the village\, view a wide variety of historic demonstrations including cider pressing at the Cider Mill\, threshing\, mattress repair and stuffing\, natural dyeing\, chair caning\, broom making\, log hand-hewing\, sheep shearing\, wood turning by the Peterborough Artisan Centre Wood Turners\, spinning by Shepherd Hill Farms\, rug hooking by the Northumberland Rug Hookers Guild\, and more. View an antique clock and timepiece display brought by the Quinte Timekeepers\, and visit the Ayotte Cabin where historic reenactors\, the 41st Battalion of Brockville Rifles\, 1st Company\, will be performing drills and demonstrating military\nmarching. \nEnjoy traditional music performed by Al Kirby\, and hear the tale of “1862”\, a crankie theatre performed by Glen Caradus. Take a moment to relax and listen to the harvest hymns in the Glen Alda Church. Play a game of apple tic-tac-toe on the Village Green\, participate in some traditional schoolyard games\, and make an apple craft to take home with you. Don’t forget to visit with the lambs! \nIf you are feeling hungry\, visit the Peterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building which will be selling chili and buns to warm you from the inside out as you enjoy the fall weather in our outdoor courtyard. While in the Courtyard\, enjoy harvest dances performed by the Peterborough Scottish Country Dancers. Pick up some traditional fall fair fare from Ben’s Kettle Corn which will be onsite selling kettle corn and candy floss. Enjoy hot or cold apple cider and freshly baked apple treats at the PCAHB and Cheese Factory. There will be bushels of sweet\, juicy apples\, apple pies\,\nand fresh apple cider for sale to take home with you\, as well as fresh Empire Cheese curd and bread. DESCRIPTION:Witness a timeline of transportation as enthusiasts from across Ontario\nshowcase their antique and classic cars and vintage motorcycles during the 27\nth Annual\nTransportation Day Car & Motorcycle Show taking place on Sunday\, July 14 from 10 am to\n3 pm at Lang Pioneer Village Museum!\nTour the historic village by horse-drawn wagon ride or take a leisurely stroll as you view\ncars\, trucks and motorcycles of every make and model. Be sure to vote for your favourite!\nLearn more about how transportation has changed over the years and the roles that\nvarious trades played in the creation of transportation methods.\nView a variety of historic demonstrations such as broom making\, shingle making at the\nShingle Mill\, and grinding at the Lang Grist Mill. Enjoy performances by the Peterborough\nScottish Country Dance Society. Make an impossible bottle at the Ayotte Cabin and show your creativity by helping to paint\nthe truck courtesy of the Peterborough County Roads Department. Don’t forget to check out the displays brought by the\nPeterborough County City Paramedics\, Peterborough Speedway\, and the Canadian Armed Forces.\nDemonstrators and visitors can enjoy a pancake breakfast served while supplies last in the Peterborough County\nAgricultural Heritage Building (additional fee applies). Also at the PCAHB\, listen to music from the 60s\, 70s and 80s with DJ\nDel and Jenny Jams. Refreshments and sweet treats will be available for purchase throughout the day at the Keene Hotel\,\nor enjoy a traditional European brewed craft beer in the Haven Brewing Company beer garden. Ben’s Kettle Corn will be\npopping up fresh kettle corn\, there will be fresh Empire Cheese curd and bread available for purchase in the Cheese\nFactory\, and the Keene Lions Club food truck will be onsite selling BBQ goods (cash only).\nFor those wishing to bring their vehicle to display\, participant registration runs from 8 am to 12 noon with a $10 registration\nfee that includes admission into the village. DESCRIPTION:Treat dad to a day filled with tractors and powerful equipment this Father’s Day with the 27th Annual Father’s Day Smoke & Steam Show at Lang Pioneer Village Museum. The Museum’s 2024 event season kicks off on Sunday\, June 16 with a Father’s Day event that the whole family will enjoy. From 10 am to 3 pm\, watch as local collectors bring to life some of the oldest antique tractors and steam engines around and compete for over 20 awards. \nAt 12 noon\, watch as competitors participate in a variety of tractor games\, including balance challenges and lawn tractor races. Throughout the village\, view displays of smoke and steam collectibles\, hit and miss engines\, antique tool collections\, model train displays\, and more. \nLean about the many ways power was generated in the 1800s. View a variety of historic demonstrations including broad axe hand hewing\, natural dyeing\, weaving\, broom making\, wood turning\, grinding at the Grist Mill\, and more. Hop on board a tractor and wagon ride and tour the historic village in style. Take some time to pause and enjoy live music by Lotus Wight. Participate in some old- fashioned games in the schoolyard. Don’t forget to visit the farm animals on loan from Harley Farms for the summer! \nIf you are looking for sustenance\, there will be plenty of options available. Demonstrators and visitors can enjoy a pancake breakfast served while supplies last in the Peterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building (additional fee applies). Refreshments and sweet treats will be available for purchase throughout the day at the Keene Hotel or stop by Ben’s Kettle Corn who will be popping up fresh kettle corn. The Keene Lions Club food truck will be onsite selling BBQ goods and there will be fresh Empire Cheese curd available for purchase in the Cheese Factory. For those looking to enjoy a cold one\, traditional European brewed craft beer will be available for purchase courtesy of Haven Brewing Company. View a wide variety of historic demonstrations throughout the village including natural dyeing\, chair caning\, flour grinding at the Lang Grist Mill\, cider pressing at the Cider Mill\, broom making\, log hand-hewing\, sheep shearing\, wood turning by the Peterborough Artisan Centre Wood Turners\, and more. View an antique clock and timepiece display brought by the Quinte Timekeepers and visit the Ayotte Cabin where historic reenactors\, the\n41st Battalion of Brockville Rifles\, 1st Company\, will be performing drills and demonstrating military marching. Be sure to visit the Horse Barn to see the threshing demonstration (morning only).\nStop by the Marie Dressler Foundation display to learn more about their upcoming Vintage Film Festival. Take a moment to relax and listen to the harvest hymns in the Glen Alda Church. Play a game of apple tic-tac-toe on the Village Green and make an apple craft. Don’t forget to visit with the lambs! \nIf you are feeling hungry\, visit the Peterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building which will be selling chili and buns to warm you from the inside out as you enjoy the fall weather in our outdoor courtyard. While in the Courtyard\, enjoy harvest dances performed by the Peterborough Scottish Country Dancers. Pick up some traditional fall fair fare from Ben’s Kettle Corn which will be onsite selling kettle corn and candy floss. Enjoy hot or cold apple cider and freshly baked apple treats from the Keene Hotel. There will be bushels of sweet\, juicy apples and fresh apple cider for\nsale to take home with you\, as well as fresh Empire Cheese curd and bread for sale in the Cheese Factory. Think you can eat an apple pie the fastest? Participate in our apple pie eating contest at 2 pm on the Village Green! \nImmerse yourself in the colourful beauty of fall in the historic village and celebrate all things apple with Applefest\, Sunday\, October 1 from 10 am to 4 pm at Lang Pioneer Village Museum. Admission is $15 for adults\, $10 for students and seniors (60+)\, $7 for youths (ages 5-14) and free for children under 5. Family admission is also available for $40 and includes 2 adults and up to 4 youths (ages 5-14). Visitors may purchase admission in advance via the Museum’s online shop. Advance purchase is not required but highly recommended for this popular event. On-site parking is available on a first come first served basis.
