SUMMARY:Oxford Historical Society Annual General Meeting & Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the Society’s AGM\, which will be held at the Woodstock Museum National Historic Site\, meeting will begin at 6:45pm. \nAt this meeting the 2025 Executive will be voted in\, all paying members will have a chance to vote. \nElaine Becker presenting To Be Continued: The Story of the Salvation Army in Woodstock\nFrom Elaine: “In January 1884 the Salvation Army came to Woodstock Ontario led by a group of Salvationists from Ingersoll Ontario. The organization had only begun in London England in 1865 under the Leadership of William and Catherine Booth. Who are these people and how did this organization spread so quickly as an international movement? \nLearn the origins and the motivation of this organization that still keep it moving forward today. In how many countries does it operate?  Perhaps the more important question for the local residents will be the progress of the Army here in Woodstock. You will be introduced to some of the colourful characters. Bring any questions you may have about this group of people and Elaine will endeavour  to answer them.”

SUMMARY:Oxford Historical Society October 2022 Meeting: Doris Weir – Cold Springs Farm in Thamesford
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Wednesday\, October 26 at 6:30 to hear Doris Weir’s presentation on the Cold Spring’s Farm in Thamesford. The presentation will be held at the Woodstock Museum\, NHS. \nFrom Doris Weir: \n“Mr. Harvey Beaty was a huge employer and contributor to the town of Thamesford and surrounding areas.  He started Cold Springs Farm in 1949 and up to his death in 1994 he created a business with over 100 farms\, processing plants and was starting to build a mini town in Florida. \nWhen I received his memoirs I wanted to ensure everyone knew who he was and what he had done for Thamesford\, Oxford County and many other areas in Ontario\, Michigan and Florida so I digitized the memoirs and created a book for everyone to read and enjoy. \nI will be talking about Mr. Beaty’s memoirs book\, his upbringing\, how he crippled himself (his word) and how he started in to the poultry and feedmill business and more.” \nThis presentation will take place at the Woodstock Museum\, NHS. Doors open at 6:30pm and the meeting will start at 6:45pm. This is a free public meeting\, all are welcome to attend.
