DESCRIPTION:The Lanark County Genealogical Society is pleased to invite members and the wider community to a special Community Event on Saturday\, May 2\, 2026\, celebrating local history\, heritage\, and preservation. \nWe are delighted to gather at St. George’s Anglican Church Hall in Clayton\, as the church marks its 125th anniversary. The day will feature engaging guest speakers\, opportunities to learn more about local history\, and time to connect with others who share an interest in genealogy and heritage. \nThe event begins at 11:00 a.m. with the opening of St. George’s Church for a history talk presented by parishioners\, followed by an exploration of its 1901 origins. Later\, Angela Yach of Ottawa Valley Stonekeepers will present practical guidance on the safe cleaning and preservation of historic stone monuments\, concluding with a hands-on demonstration at St. George’s Cemetery. \nA cold plate lunch\, catered by Barb Drummond\, will be served. Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased in advance by emailing lcgspresident@gmail.com. \nSeating is limited—reserve your place early to avoid disappointment. Join us for an informative and enjoyable day celebrating Lanark County’s rich history and the importance of preserving it for future generations.

DESCRIPTION:Join us via Zoom at 1:30 pm for an enlightening session with Leisa Purdon Bell\, Curator of the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum. She will explore the fascinating history of the residents at 11 Old Slys Road. \nA Glimpse into the Past \n– Built by Joshua Bates from 1860 to 1863\, the Heritage House has housed numerous families between 1864 and 1977. \n– Notable figures include Truman R. Ward\, the firstborn resident of Smiths Falls\, the community’s electric works\, and a renowned party horse. \n– Additional family names featured in the discussion will include the Davidsons\, O’Haras\, McGraths\, Ryans\, and Gleesons. \nSince 1977\, the Heritage House has served as a community museum\, preserving and sharing the stories of both the home and the surrounding community.
