Carolyn King & Janie Cooper-Wilson to Co-Chair OHS Preservation & Cemeteries Committee
At the most recent OHS board meeting, the Society's newest board member, Janie Cooper-Wilson, was appointed as Co-Chair of the OHS Preservation and Cemeteries Committee. Cooper-Wilson is also Executive Director of the Silvershoe Historical Society, a non-profit heritage organization dedicated to the preservation of Bethel Union Cemetery in Clearview Township. She was also a driving force in the restoration of the Oro African Episcopal Church, which was reopened in August, 2016. Cooper-Wilson joins fellow Co-Chair and Former Chief of the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation, Carolyn King. In October, 2016, King received Heritage Toronto's Special Achievement Award for her decades-long efforts to preserve the Mississaugas of New Credit First Nations’ community and to celebrate and share First Nations heritage in the greater Toronto area.
