Teaching History at the Secondary Level Using the New Ontario Curriculum

Summary:

The Ontario Historical Society’s sixth webinar in the Strengthening Ontario’s Heritage Network series was a follow-up to 2013’s Historical Educators, and focused on interpreting and incorporating the newly-released Canadian and World Studies curricular documents at the secondary level. Co-hosted with The Ontario History and Social Sciences Teachers’ Association (OHASSTA).

This webinar discussed new approaches to historical significance, historical perspectives, continuity and change, cause and consequence in history education, and therefore, secondary-level educators teaching grades 10-12 are encouraged to watch (curriculum examples will focus on grade 10 history, applied and academic).

Speakers:

Risa Gluskin has been teaching at York Mills C.I. in Toronto for the past 15 years where she is Assistant Curriculum Leader of Canadian and World Studies. Scott Pollock has been teaching history and social sciences for 13 years. He is currently a Department Head at St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School in Oakville, Ontario.
