“Professional Development for Teachers Using Ontario’s New History and Social Studies Curriculum”

Presented in partnership with the Ontario Elementary Social Studies Teachers’ Association, this session features Jill Colyer from the Historical Thinking Project. Participants can expect both pedagogical and practical information for adapting this new curriculum into their classrooms and museums, as well as lots of resources to take away! This webinar discusses new approaches to history education, and therefore, is relevant to all elementary-level educators (curriculum examples will focus on grades 6-8).

Speaker: Jill Colyer, (then) National Coordinator of The Historical Thinking Project.

Jill has been a teacher and a writer of curriculum materials since 1991. As an educator, she has taught both secondary school students and adults. Her secondary school experience has been gained at a number of schools within the Waterloo Region Board of Education in Ontario, and at Taylor’s College in Malaysia. Her work in adult education includes working with teachers upgrading their qualifications through the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, and working with student teachers from a variety of faculties of education.
