SUMMARY:Ontario Black History Society Emancipation Day Celebration 2020
DESCRIPTION:On July 31st\, the OBHS will be hosting virtually its annual Emancipation Day celebration to commemorate the anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act. \nAugust 1\, 1834\, marks the day in which the practice of the enslavement of African peoples in all British colonies came to an end. Through the tireless efforts of both the enslaved and free status Africans\, as well as Black and white abolitionists\, emancipation finally became a reality. \nThis evening features keynote speaker Itah Sadu\, award-winning author\, storyteller and owner of A Different Booklist\,Cultural Centre. New this year is a special virtual tour of Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historic Site. Join us as Steven Cook\, manager of Uncle Tom’s Cabin\, showcases this Black History Museum located in Dresden\, ON. As we reflect on the current COVID-19 pandemic and anti-racism protests\, we will speak with JCA President Adaoma Patterson on pandemic responses for the Black community\, and Black Lives Matter Toronto co-founder Pascale Diverlus. \nHosted by Femi Lawson\, guests will also hear a greeting from OBHS President Natasha Henry\, enjoy a cooking demonstration by Chef Warren Ford and view a musical performance by Khari Wendell McClelland.

From 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm each evening\,\nvisitors can enjoy a pre-booked guided evening tour of the Village by the soft glow of\nlantern light. \nWith a costumed interpreter to light the way\, visitors will receive a 45-minute guided tour of\nsome of the homes and businesses located within the historic Village. Visitors will have an\nadditional 30 minutes to explore some of the Village’s other buildings and exhibits. Local\ntraditional musicians will be providing musical entertainment each evening from the\nWeaver’s Shop porch. \nThis family-friendly event will provide visitors a different twilight-to-nightfall perspective of\nthe historic Village and pre-booked\, timed entry will ensure that each family unit or group\nwill experience a safe tour. The cost per tour is $50 and includes up to 10 people from the\nsame social circle. Tours run every 15 minutes and must be purchased in advance on the\nMuseum’s online Museum Shop at https://lang-pioneer-village-museum.myshopify.com/.\nGuests also have the opportunity to purchase packaged traditional or pecan butter tarts\nand refreshment at the time of booking to enjoy during their visit.

DESCRIPTION:Lang Pioneer Village Museum is kicking off its seasonal tour schedule with\nVillage by Lantern Light taking place Friday & Saturday\, September 11 & 12 and\nThursday & Friday\, September 17 & 18. From 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm each evening\,\nvisitors can enjoy a pre-booked guided evening tour of the Village by the soft glow of\nlantern light. \nWith a costumed interpreter to light the way\, visitors will receive a 45-minute guided tour of\nsome of the homes and businesses located within the historic Village. Visitors will have an\nadditional 30 minutes to explore some of the Village’s other buildings and exhibits. Local\ntraditional musicians will be providing musical entertainment each evening from the\nWeaver’s Shop porch. \nThis family-friendly event will provide visitors a different twilight-to-nightfall perspective of\nthe historic Village and pre-booked\, timed entry will ensure that each family unit or group\nwill experience a safe tour. The cost per tour is $50 and includes up to 10 people from the\nsame social circle. Tours run every 15 minutes and must be purchased in advance on the\nMuseum’s online Museum Shop at https://lang-pioneer-village-museum.myshopify.com/.\nGuests also have the opportunity to purchase packaged traditional or pecan butter tarts\nand refreshment at the time of booking to enjoy during their visit.
