The last time he spoke at the Legion there was an enthusiastic turnout\, so we are looking forward to his return. He has been publicly commended by Canadian vets for stressing the accomplishments of Canadians in service. With hand-carved\, turned\, and burned wooden items like charcuterie boards and birdhouses\, beeswax items\, delicious preserves\, knit\, sewn\, and crocheted goods\, hand-crafted bath salts and scrubs\, jewelry\, pottery\, Christmas décor\, tinware\, and more\, you are sure to find something for even the hardest to buy for! \nIn addition to holiday shopping\, the event features a large raffle with over $2\,000 worth of gift baskets\, handmade gift items\, and fully decorated trees to be won. SUMMARY:Culinary Historians of Canada - Jane Austen 250th Birthday Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Jane Austen was born on December 16\, 1775\, in the village of Steventon\, in Hampshire\, England. Recognizing both the popularity of her work with modern readers and the fact that many early Canadian settlers would have recognized\, cooked and eaten the dishes mentioned in her writings\, CHC celebrates her 250th birthday with an afternoon at historic Campbell House\, built in 1822.  Guest speakers will explore themes of food in the novels of Jane Austen. \nDr. Lorraine Clark\, Trent University\nFood for Thought: Jane Austen on the pleasures of ‘taste’ \nDr. Theresa Moritz\, University of Toronto\nEmma’s Appetites: Getting to eat what you want in Highbury \nSample a selection of foods that have a connection to the novels and letters of Jane Austen.  Historic cook and CHC honorary member Mya Sangster will briefly discuss the historic recipes behind the selections. \nSaturday\, November 22\, 2025\n1:00-4:00 pm (in-person event)\nCampbell House Museum \nTickets available through Eventbrite\nCHC members & students   $25.00\nCulinary Tourism Alliance members   $29.75\nGeneral admission   $35.00\n(HST and service fee extra) \nPeriod costume is not required.
