SUMMARY:Lang Pioneer Village Museum - Corn Roast
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the heart of the summer harvest season with a good old-fashioned Corn Roast on Sunday\, August 17 from 10 am to 4 pm at Lang Pioneer Village Museum! It will be a day filled with summer harvest-themed fun that the whole family is sure to enjoy. Hop aboard a horse-drawn wagon ride and tour the historic village in style as you discover the many ways early settlers used corn. View a variety of summer harvest-related demonstrations including threshing\, bagging\, fanning mill\, corn husk braiding\, and corn shelling. \nThroughout the village there will be a variety of historic demonstrations on display\, including natural dyeing using\nnative plants\, flop mattress repairing and stuffing\, stitching with the Northumberland Hills Stitchery Guild\, weaving on\nthe Jacquard loom\, wood turning with the Kawartha Woodturners Guild and the Peterborough Artisan Centre Wood\nTurners\, rug hooking with the Northumberland Rug Hookers\, grinding at the Grist Mill\, and more.\nStop and rest for a while as you enjoy some steaming fire-cooked corn smothered in butter at the fire pit\, or visit the\nKeene Hotel for a sweet treat and cold beverage. The Keene Lions Club food truck will be located in the Peterborough\nCounty Agricultural Heritage Building courtyard selling BBQ goods (cash only)\, and Ben’s Kettle Corn will be popping\nup fresh kettle corn. If you are feeling adventurous\, enter the corn-on-the-cob eating contest taking place on the\nVillage Green at 2 pm. Be sure to stop by the Cheese Factory for some fresh Empire Cheese curd and bread to take\nhome with you. \nCheck out the many entries that were submitted for the Peterborough Agricultural Society’s Homecraft Show in the\nPeterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building. Participate in some old-fashioned schoolyard games\, and make a\nsummer harvest craft at the Ayotte Cabin. Listen to summer harvest songs being played on the organ in the Glen Alda\nChurch\, and enjoy traditional music performed by Glen Caradus on the Weaver Shop porch. \nCelebrate the heart of the summer harvest season with Corn Roast\, August 17 from 10 am to 4 pm at Lang Pioneer\nVillage Museum. Admission is $17 for adults\, $12 for students and seniors (60+)\, $9 for youths (ages 5-14)\, and free for\nchildren under 5. Drowning in Dreams\, a captivating documentary\, follows Thunder Bay businessman Fred Broennle as he becomes consumed by a near-mythical mission: to raise the luxurious steam yacht Gunilda–considered the most beautiful shipwreck in the world–from its resting place 300 feet beneath Lake Superior. This is a rare chance to see this film at the Thunder Bay Museum\, an event that promises to be a high-stakes odyssey of greed\, guilt\, and devastation. \nDrowning in Dreams is provided courtesy of the National Film Board of Canada. \nDrowning in Dreams is not rated by the Motion Picture Association. The film contains scenes that may not be suitable for children\, including discussions of drowning\, diving accidents\, and death\, as well as a brief depiction of a deceased person and brief partial nudity.
