SUMMARY:Architectural Conservancy of Ontario Heritage Awards 2022
DESCRIPTION:A celebration of excellence in heritage conservation\, honouring outstanding preservation leaders\, projects\, and initiatives across Ontario \nThe Venue and Event: The Assembly Hall has been an important part of the Etobicoke Lakeshore community for over a century. Built in 1898 as part of the Mimico Lunatic Asylum (later renamed the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital)\, it was designed to serve as a place of recreation and worship for the patients and hospital staff. After the hospital’s closure in 1979\, Assembly Hall fell into disuse for two decades. The combined efforts of local activists and politicians helped to support the City of Toronto’s restoration of this facility\, which reopened on in June 2001. Join us for a beautifully catered cocktail party and formal awards presentation in this gorgeous designated historic building.

SUMMARY:The Village of Port Maitland New Sign Unveiling
DESCRIPTION:The faithful old sign at the four corners has seen better days. \nWhen Fred Moyer and his friends placed their sign at the four corners it was during Canada’s Centennial year of 1967. The population of Port Maitland was 112 inhabitants. The home computer was not even a possibility. Facts that are available on the web today were not available then. Fred did a great job of giving our little hamlet a sense of history and pride in our community. \nToday with the advantage of computers we have learned a bit more then Fred could have known. \nThe Port Maitland\, “On the Grand” Historical Association wishes to celebrate Fred’s efforts by replacing his sign and updating the essential information. \nCome out to the four corners on Saturday October 15th @ 12:00 noon; and join us for the unveiling of the new sign. \nPlease leave your car at home or park it at least several hundred feet from the corner. If you have mobility issues please have someone drop you off. \nMeet you at the corner of Kings Row Road and Port Maitland Road.

SUMMARY:Port Maitland\, “On the Grand” Historical Association Presents Guest Speaker Jacqueline Fisher\, Professional Archaeologist
DESCRIPTION:Port Maitland\, “On the Grand” Historical Association will hold its next membership meeting in the Disher Room of Dunnville Library on October 17 at 7:00 p.m. \nThe guest speaker will be Jacqueline Fisher – Professional Archaeologist\, BA\, MA. \nJacquie has been running her own company (FAC) for the last 25 years\, and has worked in the Dunnville area as well as Eastern and Southwestern Ontario. Her team has worked for the City of Windsor and for municipalities and individuals throughout Ontario. \nJacquie is the Vice-President of the Hamilton Branch of the Ontario Archeological Society\, which is hosting the annual OAS symposium this October 28 – 30th held at Royal Botanical Gardens and McMaster Innovation Park. \nJacquie will provide a PowerPoint presentation on some of the aspects of conducting commercial archaeology in the province and the types of sites that she has worked on through the years. \nThis from CTV Windsor (September 2013):\n“An archaeological dig in Lakeshore wrapped up Monday\, while construction on the Puce River (Tecumseh ON) bridge expansion along County Road 22 carries on.\nUp to 100\,000 objects were uncovered during the dig\, giving a glimpse back into Essex County history.\nJackie Fisher\, lead archaeologist\, says now that the digging and dusting are complete\, the project moves into the next phase.\n‘The actual detective puzzle figuring out is just beginning\,’ says Fisher. … It unveiled various items\, including pottery\, arrowheads\, wild bore [sic]tusks and axe pieces. Some things from other regions were found\, including the Caribbean.” \nThis leads to many questions.  For instance does Jackie have any explanation how items from the Caribbean ended up on the shore of Lake St. Clair?  Are these types of discoveries very common?

SUMMARY:Friends of the South Grey Museum Speaker Series 2022: Barbara Rusch\, "Two Queens\, Two Reigns: A Singular Purpose"
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the South Grey Museum invite you to the Speakers Series 2022\, developed and hosted by Barry Penhale. As someone with an interest in the Museum and its programs\, you know how much we have all missed many activities during the COVID-19 pandemic\, including our series of talks. We decided to welcome our supporters back to a virtual series for 2022\, offered as webinars via Zoom with another eight programs\, occurring as usual on the third Wednesday of each month\, April to November\, at 7:00 pm. \nThe Museum being no longer available as a host site\, and with the continuing threat of COVID\, going virtual was the obvious solution. Moving to a virtual delivery brings with it some additional costs\, so we have made this a subscription series\, but we’ve kept the usual at-the-door cost as a household fee of $10 per session. We are grateful to the Municipality of Grey Highlands for continuing their support for the presenters. \n\nFittingly\, in the year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee\, the renowned collector of Victoriana\, Barbara Rusch\, will join us in a tribute to two record-setting monarchs. Over a span of some 40 years she has become widely-known for her dedication to the preservation of historically important objects. Today\, Barbara is a recognized Sherlock Holmes and Houdini expert\, as well as having assembled the largest collection of Queen Victoria artifacts in Canada. A recent Toronto Star feature article quoted her as saying: “That’s what I consider my mission in life: to resurrect those voices\, to tell their stories.” In some ways\, the reigns of Queen Elizabeth II\, now in its 70th record-setting year\, and that of her great-great-grandmother\, Queen Victoria have run along parallel lines. Both ascended to the throne at a tender age and lived to celebrate significant milestones\, enjoying happy marriages to their cousins. What few know is that both survived assassination attempts and home invasions within the palace walls. Barbara will reveal these and other little-known facts about these popular and long-lived royal women. Don’t miss this master storyteller whose reputation as a lively enthusiastic presenter has few equals. \n\nMany Sessions\, Your Choice \nHoping you will join us for another exciting series\, this time from the comfort of your home\, no uncomfortable folding chairs\, and no expenditure on gasoline! \nChoose which parts of the series you prefer.  Visit our web site for in-depth descriptions of The Sessions. \nFull Series of all eight sessions monthly April to November\nwith one free session discount\nfor $70\nOR\nHalf Series of four sessions monthly April to July\nfor $40\nOR\nHalf Series of four sessions monthly August to November\nfor $40 \n  \nBuy $70 Full Series (8 sessions) April to November \nBuy $40 Half Series (4 sessions) April to July \nBuy $40 Half Series (4 sessions) August to November
