DESCRIPTION:**This event was originally scheduled for April 13 but was rescheduled to April 27** \n\nStories of Significance: Etobicoke through Indigenous perspectives \nJoin us for an intimate conversation exploring Indigenous histories and narratives through storytelling with renowned Indigenous artists Philip Cote\, Susan Blight and Nyle Johnston. Each of these artists will speak about their experiences working on this project\, identifying sites\, exploring digital mediums and telling stories of significance from an Indigenous perspective. \nThis event will be held in person at the Storefront Gallery at Arts Etobicoke\, as well as livestreamed online. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Valerie Hébert will discuss Canada’s response to the Jewish refugee crisis in the prewar and wartime years\, setting it in context of domestic concerns and priorities\, as well as other nations’ actions. \nPlease join the Society for this virtual event that is free to view.  The lecture will be broadcast live via ZOOM and posted to the Museum’s YouTube at a later date.   \nThis lecture is being presented in support of the traveling exhibit  “And in 1948\, I came to Canada”: The Holocaust in Six Dates  on display at the Thunder Bay Museum from April 6th until June 26th 2022. \nShort bio:  \nValerie Hébert is associate professor of history and interdisciplinary studies at Lakehead University Orillia where she teaches on modern European history\, Nazi Germany and the Holocaust\, and the photography of human rights violations and international conflict. She has won fellowships from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada\, Hebrew University\, and the Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She has published on the Nuremberg Trials\, Rwanda’s Gacaca Tribunals\, the German resistance figure Kurt Gerstein\, and Holocaust Photography.
