DESCRIPTION:The Craigleith Heritage Depot and Mountain Goat Film Company have released a full-length documentary on Blue Mountain Pottery titled “Blue Clay”. The latest local history film from our REEL History series\, and international winner of the 2023 Telly Awards. \nExplore the unique shapes\, colours\, places and faces of Blue Mountain Pottery. Made from the clay of the Blue Mountains\, the pottery began in 1953 with the hands of skilled immigrant craftsmen on the shores of Georgian Bay. Discover the legends of BMP\, how it saved the Blue Mountain ski resort\, and through its remarkable journey still lives on today! \n“Blue Clay” is always available for viewing on the Blue Mountains Public Library YouTube channel. SUMMARY:Mattawa Museum: Otto Holden Dam Tour
DESCRIPTION:Sign-ups will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday July 28th at the OPG booth under the tent outside of the Museum. The first 44 people that sign-up will partake in the tour. The tour is free of charge and sponsored by Ontario Power Generation and First Student Bus Lines. \nThe bus will begin to load at 12 pm. right out front of the Mattawa Museum and will depart at 12:30 p.m. \nThe dam tour will begin at 1 p.m. The tour is 1 hour and 30 minutes. Children 9 and over are welcome to participate. Anyone who has a electronic medical device such as a pacemaker should not participate in the tour due to equipment on site that produces magnetic fields. This is strictly a walking tour involving climbing up and down stairs and views from heights. Participants should be physically fit and wear closed toe flat bottom soled footwear\, as there is floor grating throughout the plant and potential wet surfaces. \nThe bus will return to the Mattawa Museum by 3 p.m. Be sure to check out the brand new OPG exhibit inside of the museum.

DESCRIPTION:Toronto Branch is pleased to present this year’s Toronto History Lecture: The Tragic Fate of Huron Elliott: A Forgotten Indigenous Worker on Toronto’s Water Tunnel Project. Our speaker is researcher\, writer and urban planner Eric Sehr. \nOne of the most significant projects undertaken in Toronto during the early 1900s was the construction of the Water Supply Tunnel in Toronto’s harbour. Huron Elliott\, a miner from the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation\, arrived in Toronto in 1907 to work on this project. Tragically\, he and three other workers lost their lives just days later. \nThe Lecture will be held online via Zoom on Tuesday\, August 8th\, at 7:30 pm EDT. It is free to attend\, but you must register. DESCRIPTION:Good news from Wesleyville Heritage Village! \nWe’re now working with the United Church of Canada on a lease with the Friends of Wesleyville Village for community use of the Church for at least another 50 years.\nWhen approved this new lease would secure community investment in the restoration and upgrade of the Church building required after the 2021 fire. \nThe recovery work is estimated at between $400\,000 and $500\,000. The community\, including the Municipality of Port Hope\, has already contributed over $150\,000 towards this project. We’re planning to start repairing the stained glass windows and the entrance doors this fall and have applied for an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to meet accessibility needs\, building and fire code requirements. \nFund-raising must continue for this and other Wesleyville Village conservation projects. He has been involved in passenger advocacy for more than a decade\, starting in Southwestern Ontario where has lived since coming to Canada in 2003. \nHe has studied Railway Engineering at Technical University Delft\, leadership with the Ivey School of Business\, and has a Master’s in Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford. He is also an entrepreneur\, with experience in computer science and artificial intelligence\, and also volunteers with two social housing organizations\, and the VIA Historical Association. \nTICKETS \nTickets for this event are free\, although registration is required.
