Si vous arrivez à la station Spadina sur la ligne 1 nord/sud\, il faut aller sur une des plateformes de la ligne est/ouest pour y trouver la sortie «Walmer Road». \nArrivée : 20\, avenue Prince Arthur\, à quelques pas de la station de métro St. George \nGuides : Paul Overy et Rolande Smith (Recherche de Raymonde Safran) \nUn nouveau complexe a vu le jour au pied de l’avenue Spadina à Toronto: “The Well”. Il abrite magasins\, restaurants\, bureaux et appartements dans un ensemble urbain\, moderne certes mais dont l’architecture offre plusieurs rappels du passé.  Ses nombreuses ouvertures sur le quartier nous permettent de découvrir\, entre autres choses\, le cimetière militaire des soldats de Simcoe fondé en 1794\, la rue Draper avec sa collection de 28 maisons en rangée de style second empire\, ainsi que le parc du regretté architecte Claude Cormier et son chat solitaire. \nSoyez des nôtres pour cette visite gratuite – il n’est pas nécessaire de réserver. DESCRIPTION:The HBHAS is excited with this year’s Celebration Festival August 3\, 2024 at Spencer Smith Park\, Burlington\, as the lineup is stupendous.  We’re also pround of one of our musical groups\, Blackburn\, in their record breaking 2024\, 9 Maple Blues Award nominations.  Blackburn has played for this festival every year since our incorporation.  Due to their exquisite global promotions\, they will not be joining us this year as they’ve been asked to do a European tour.  Congratulations Blackburn.  We’ll revisit down the road. \n  \nThe musical program this year includes Maple Blues nominated for best new group\, Garnetta Cromwell and DaGroovmasters; Rayzalution – 5 piece all female Reggae phenom; Dejehan Luckystickz Hamilton & Friends; World Class Lou Pomanti & Oakland Stroke; and\, the infamous LTD Connection.  (Bios attaced).  Jazz/soul phenom\, Shelley Hamilton will be joining Luckystickz as Masters of Ceremony.  This exquisite musical entourage will compliment the wide array of multi-cultural crafts\, fashion\, art and storytelling workshops\, and youth activities.  This is a festival you do not want to miss. \n  \nLast years attendance of 5000 will definitely increase\, and the Halton Freedom Festival weekend\, will include an HBHAS Emancipation Flag Raising at Burlington City Hall on Thursday\, August 1st followed by our HBHAS Emancipation Gala Thursday evening at the Burlington Performing Arts Center\, and the 7th Emancipation Art Exhibition taking place August 4th at the Helson Gallery in Halton Hills. \n  \nThe HBHAS is currently accepting vendors to serve multi-cultural cuisine\, and we welcome crafters\, artisans\, storytellers\, genealogists\, historians\, and community service providers to join in the experience and celebrating within the “1st city in the world to acclaim August as Emancipation Month”.  We welcome you and yours to this free celebration festival.

It’s a time for fellowship\, reflection and sharing experiences through storytelling\, music\, art\, dance and poetry. \nWe hope you will join us at the 162nd Emancipation Festival\, the longest and continuous emancipation event in North America! Come out and enjoy amazing speakers\, performers and other activities planned for this signature summer event. Whether you are visiting Owen Sound for the day or the weekend\, there are lots of great things to do and places to stay in beautiful Harrison Park\, Owen Sound and other scenic sites in Grey County. \n  \nWhat`s new \nThe Emancipation Festival board of directors were thrilled to receive an arts\, culture and volunteer award this spring\, in the outstanding event category and recognized for contributing to Owen Sound’s local cultural strength and diversity. We are also grateful for our partnership and successful Black History Month fundraiser with the Owen Sound Attack. Last month\, we gathered for the launch of the Northern Terminus: The African Canadian History Journal (available at the Grey Roots Museum & Archives). It was heartwarming to come together with representatives from many groups and organizations in Grey County who share our passion to raise awareness\, preserve a legacy for future generations\, and celebrate Black history in Grey County. \n  \nEvent highlights \nSpeaker’s Corner\, Grey Roots Museum & Archives\, Friday\, August 2\, 6 – 9 p.m.: Engage with thought-provoking educators\, historians and descendants of freedom seekers focused on the “ties that bind” our heritage\, emancipation\, history\, and social justice. Presentation by Dr. Cyrus Sundar Singh’s “Following the Notes: The Journey of a Messenger from Africville to Emancipation to the Door of No Return”; artists` renditions of Mary “Granny“ Taylor; storytelling; entertainment by Brooke Blackburn and a performance by The Rise Dance Group; $25 admission in advance. Space is limited\, so don`t delay – get your tickets today! \nLooking for something else to do Friday night? Dance the night away to live entertainment by the Band of People. Tickets are $10 online or in person. Be sure to vote for your favourite!\nLearn more about how transportation has changed over the years and the roles that\nvarious trades played in the creation of transportation methods.\nView a variety of historic demonstrations such as broom making\, shingle making at the\nShingle Mill\, and grinding at the Lang Grist Mill. Enjoy performances by the Peterborough\nScottish Country Dance Society. Make an impossible bottle at the Ayotte Cabin and show your creativity by helping to paint\nthe truck courtesy of the Peterborough County Roads Department. Don’t forget to check out the displays brought by the\nPeterborough County City Paramedics\, Peterborough Speedway\, and the Canadian Armed Forces.\nDemonstrators and visitors can enjoy a pancake breakfast served while supplies last in the Peterborough County\nAgricultural Heritage Building (additional fee applies). Also at the PCAHB\, listen to music from the 60s\, 70s and 80s with DJ\nDel and Jenny Jams. Refreshments and sweet treats will be available for purchase throughout the day at the Keene Hotel\,\nor enjoy a traditional European brewed craft beer in the Haven Brewing Company beer garden. DESCRIPTION:United Empire Loyalists’ Day \nThe Bill to officially recognize United Empire Loyalists Day was given Royal Assent and passed into law in December\, 1997 with unanimous\, all-party support in the Legislature. June 19th is now an official day formally established by the Ontario Government to commemorate and celebrate our Loyalist history. This year’s celebration will be held outside\, rain or shine. \nAt the ROCK\, Dundurn Castle (service entrance from parking lot at Castle) \nPlease bring a fold up chair for the ceremony\, if required. SUMMARY:27th Annual Father's Day Smoke & Steam Show at Lang Pioneer Village Museum
DESCRIPTION:Treat dad to a day filled with tractors and powerful equipment this Father’s Day with the 27th Annual Father’s Day Smoke & Steam Show at Lang Pioneer Village Museum. The Museum’s 2024 event season kicks off on Sunday\, June 16 with a Father’s Day event that the whole family will enjoy. From 10 am to 3 pm\, watch as local collectors bring to life some of the oldest antique tractors and steam engines around and compete for over 20 awards. \nAt 12 noon\, watch as competitors participate in a variety of tractor games\, including balance challenges and lawn tractor races. Throughout the village\, view displays of smoke and steam collectibles\, hit and miss engines\, antique tool collections\, model train displays\, and more. \nLean about the many ways power was generated in the 1800s. View a variety of historic demonstrations including broad axe hand hewing\, natural dyeing\, weaving\, broom making\, wood turning\, grinding at the Grist Mill\, and more. Hop on board a tractor and wagon ride and tour the historic village in style. Take some time to pause and enjoy live music by Lotus Wight. Participate in some old- fashioned games in the schoolyard. Don’t forget to visit the farm animals on loan from Harley Farms for the summer! \nIf you are looking for sustenance\, there will be plenty of options available. Demonstrators and visitors can enjoy a pancake breakfast served while supplies last in the Peterborough County Agricultural Heritage Building (additional fee applies). Refreshments and sweet treats will be available for purchase throughout the day at the Keene Hotel or stop by Ben’s Kettle Corn who will be popping up fresh kettle corn. The Keene Lions Club food truck will be onsite selling BBQ goods and there will be fresh Empire Cheese curd available for purchase in the Cheese Factory. For those looking to enjoy a cold one\, traditional European brewed craft beer will be available for purchase courtesy of Haven Brewing Company. If you haven’t already over-indulged in delicious treats\, take part in the pie-eating contest on the Village Green at 2 pm but be sure to register early as there are only a limited number of spaces available! \nThe day will conclude with a tractor parade through the historic village beginning at 3 pm. Admission is $15 for adults\, $10 for students and seniors (60+)\, $7 for youths (ages 5-14) and free for children under 5. Family admission is also available for $40 and includes 2 adults and up to 4 youths (ages 5-14). Tickets are available at the door and in advance online.
