Join us on November 16th for the third evening presentation of our Annual Fall Author’s Series!

Lorna Poplak will present on her publication “The Don Jail ” as she investigates the origins and evolution of Toronto’s most infamous jail, presenting a in-depth exploration of the jail from its inception through jailbreaks and overcrowding to its eventual closure and rebirth.

Lorna Poplak’s “The Don” portrays Toronto’s Don Jail in meticulous and fascinating detail as she explores the controversies surrounding the location and construction of the jail as well as the stories of hangings, where sentences of capital punishment were carried out on its grounds. Poplak organizes a mountain of research into a historic page turner.

About the Author:
Lorna Poplak is a Toronto-based writer, editor, and researcher with a fascination for the dark side of Canadian history. She is a member of Crime Writers of Canada and Sisters in Crime. Her two nonfiction books, both published by Dundurn Press, are Drop Dead: A Horrible History of Hanging in Canada (2017), and The Don: The Story of Toronto’s Infamous Jail (2021).
