Heritage Data Coordinator

The Ontario Historical Society

Wage: $10.25-$11.00 per hour,
35 hours per week, 16 weeks

The main objectives of the Heritage Data Coordinator will be to strengthen the Society’s archives and infrastructure through an organization and digitization project.  This project will entail various tasks, including cataloguing the Society’s library collection.  Successful candidates will also assist with the planning, marketing and execution of the Society’s key summer events, including its AGM and Conference June 7-9 in Kitchener, Ontario, and Doors Open Toronto.  This will benefit the Society by allowing it to offer better customer service, the student by strengthening their professional and organization skills, and the general public by allowing better access to Ontario’s rich heritage.

Society Sets New Landmark for Affiliation in 2011

Incorporation with The Ontario Historical Society in 2012 has already begun!  On March 3, 2012, incorporated two new historical organizations as not-for-profit corporations, the Friends of the Merrickville Turbine and the Canadian Chapter of the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills.

2011 was another record-setting year for the Society, having incorporated fourteen new organizations between February and December 2011.

Ontario Heritage Trust
Opens Parliament Interpretive Centre


Ontario Heritage Trust kicked off their 2012 Heritage Week activities on February 17th, 2012 with the opening of the new Parliament Interpretive Centre featuring the exhibit Foundations & Fire: Early Parliament and the War of 1812 Experience at York.  Located at 265 Front Street East, in Toronto, it will give Ontarians an opportunity to experience a closer look at a conflict which strongly influenced the formation of York (Toronto) and Canada as a whole.

Launches Grants Ontario Website

 This week, the Government of Ontario launched a new online hub for organizations and institutions seeking financial grants.  This change will affect all Heritage Operating Development Grant and Community Museum Operating Grant recipients and will change how these groups apply for funding.

OHS Honours and Awards
Nomination Period Closed for 2011-12

Thank you to all those who made a nomination for a 2011-12 OHS Award.  

This year's Awards will be presented at the Society's Annual Honours and Awards Ceremony and Luncheon, part of the "2012 - Year of History" Joint Conference presented by The Ontario Historical Society in partnership with the Waterloo Historical Society and the Waterloo Region Museum, June 8-9th, at the new Waterloo Region Museum in Kitchener.

The Ceremony and Luncheon will be held on Saturday, June 9th at noon.  

The Honours and Awards Committee will contact nominators and nominees in early spring.  Thank you once again for all your support!

The OHS recently launched its highly successful Ontario Heritage Directory Online, a database covering Ontario's heritage community.
